Altydgedacht wine estate, which is situated on the fertile slopes of the Tygerberg (Between the N7 and Durbanville), doesn't only produce great wine and serve world class apple pie, but this gem of a location also produces great backlighting for photography on a late afternoon.

We chose this venue as the backdrop for a rustic, walk-about photography session amongst the lovely trees, white washed walls, rusted barns and old implements.

I met Martin & Janine and their families for the first time on the morning of their wedding. What a lovely couple and warm-hearted family. It was pure Pizzazz as we photographed the magic of the day as it unfolded. The old Dutch Reformed church on Bredasdorp was our first stop. The old shipwreck museum in Bredasdorp and the old town, Elim, made for lovely backdrops for the couple shots. We finally headed for The Black Oystercatcher venue to celebrate their love for each other and their lifetime vows! Congratulations to you both

Jo Martin Band and Diemersfontein, the place where great music and wine flows!

Diemersfontein wine estate (http://www.diemersfontein.co.za) is situated in Wellington, Western Cape, South Africa and is home of the original and Internationally acclaimed coffee Pinotage red wine (Pinotage grapes / wine, is exclusive to South Africa). On 21 March 2010 this beautiful and idyllic estate hosted the start of the world famous ABSA Epic Cycle Challenge as well as a wine harvest festival in their courtyard together with live music (The Jo Martin Band was excellent) and plenty of wine! Needless to say: This was a great day out with my family and produced great photo magic.

"Beach Fun" Family Shoot - Big Bay, South Africa

When Marius and Michelle mentioned family photos, I envisioned and suggested some great family fun at Big Bay, near Blaauwberg, South Africa: Wide open sandy beach, icy water (an instant recipe to create great reactions and expressions) and lovely surroundings that provides for great backdrops and texture for Contrast Color and Black and white shots to exaggerate the fun. When Katrin of Africade Productions invited us to “Jou ma se comedy club” @ The River Club in Mowbray, to see her husband Kurt Schoonraad, professional comedian and other comedians like Nik Rabinowitz (Jewish-xhosa speaking comedian) perform we didn't know that we’d experience SO much amusement and hilarity in one night! What an absolute smashing evening!

Kurt Schoonraad also featured in the February issue of Khuluma Magazine on why local is so lekker, ek sê!

Nene Valley Cottages

I love the idea of a quiet weekend away, but dread searching through website after website to find the perfect place. What a great relief (and excitement!) to stumble across this gem on the Premier Cottages website, located only 90 min drive from London. The warm welcome we received upon arrival set the scene for a beautifully serene experience. The cottages offer glorious views over the Nene Valley, with miles of country tracks to roam.

Surrounding canola fields gave us a sneak preview of the yellow splendour to come and the nearby ancient market town of Oundle offered not only lovely Jurassic limestone buildings, but also a magnificent cup of coffee at Beans.

I'm delighted to have won this month's competition with this photo of the Millenium Bridge (London, UK)! The theme was 'angles' and this shot is one of my personal favourites. The converging lines lead the eye to an illuminated St Paul's Cathedral, one of London's famous landmarks.

I Found My Horn

What a brilliant play! Jonathan Guy Lewis gives a magnificent performance in this laugh-out-loud one-man show of I found my horn, based on the semi-autobiographical book by Jasper Rees. It tells the story of a man who takes stock of the past and decides to take up the French Horn again after 22 years to play Mozart's Horn Concerto No.3 in a concert for the British Horn Society.

The play was performed at a fundraising event for Maternity Worldwide, the charity dedicated to saving mother's lives. In Ethiopia 1 in 7 mothers die in pregnancy or childbirth compared to 1 in 4,600 in the UK. Most of these deaths are easily avoidable through simple and cheap methods with a donation of only £1 providing antibiotics, £15 sponsoring a safe birth and £40 providing a ceasarean section etc. Amongst other initiatives, Maternity Worldwide provides improved access to hospitals, skilled maternity staff and funding to those least able to pay for care. In addition, they also empower local women and girls through health education, advice and support. What a truly good cause to support!

This is the statue of poet John Betjeman by Martin Jennings. Betjeman had been the driving force behind efforts to save the site when it was threatened by development plans during the 1960's and the sculpture stands as a tribute from London and Continental Railways to the man who made their redevelopment of the station possible.

The lovely weather we had today reminded me of an unforgettable trip. The commission: to document a 3 day journey on board the Royal Scotsman. Dare I say you haven't experienced the true beauty of the Scottish Highlands if you haven't done it with Orient Express. We were absolutely mesmerized by the majestic scenery, exquisite food and attention to personal luxury service. Not to mention the glamour of enjoying a candlelight dinner in a kilt (now there's a bit of a tricky situation!) The bridge in the picture above is the one featured in Harry Potter...

Kassiesbaai

We had the pleasure of discovering the delights of Kassiesbaai on a recent trip to Arniston in South Africa. Kassiesbaai is a working fishing village where we found wonderfully warm smiles and generous people. Lillian, one of the local residents, treated us to an evening of beautifully cooked freshly caught fish with a candle lit dinner in one of the original houses (like the one pictured above). The village dates back approximately 200 years and has been declared a national monument. It is located on the coast of the Indian Ocean in the town of Arniston, named after the Britsh troopship that was wrecked off the Agulhas reef in 1815, with the tragic loss of 372 lives. Arniston is approximately 190km from Cape Town.
